The Abrogation Of The Waiting Period For One Type Of Divorce
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ النَّحْوِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ { وَالْمُطَلَّقَاتُ يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ ثَلاَثَةَ قُرُوءٍ }. وَقَالَ { وَاللاَّئِي يَئِسْنَ مِنَ الْمَحِيضِ مِنْ نِسَائِكُمْ إِنِ ارْتَبْتُمْ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلاَثَةُ أَشْهُرٍ } فَنُسِخَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَ { وَإِنْ طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَمَسُّوهُنَّ }
Translation
Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas
"Divorced women shall wait concerning themselves for three periods." And He said: "And such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their term is three months." Part of that was abrogated, and He said: "And if you divorce them before you have touched them..."
