Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيَّ، حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ بِرُودِسَ مِنْ أَرْضِ الرُّومِ فَتُوُفِّيَ صَاحِبٌ لَنَا فَأَمَرَ فَضَالَةُ بِقَبْرِهِ فَسُوِّيَ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْمُرُ بِتَسْوِيَتِهَا . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ رُودِسُ جَزِيرَةٌ فِي الْبَحْرِ .
Translation
Abu ‘Ali al-Hamdani said, ‘We were with Fadalah ibn ‘Ubayd on Rhodes, in Roman territory, when one of our companions died. Fadalah ordered that his grave be leveled and said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ command that graves be leveled.”’ Abu Dawud said: Rhodes is an island in the sea.
