Sunan Abi Dawud 3221
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى الرَّازِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَحِيرٍ، عَنْ هَانِئٍ، مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ دَفْنِ الْمَيِّتِ وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ " اسْتَغْفِرُوا لأَخِيكُمْ وَسَلُوا لَهُ التَّثْبِيتَ فَإِنَّهُ الآنَ يُسْأَلُ " . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ بَحِيرُ بْنُ رَيْسَانَ .
Translation
‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan said that when the Prophet ﷺ finished burying someone, he would stand by the grave and say, ‘Ask forgiveness for your brother and ask that he be made steadfast, for he is now being questioned.’ Abu Dawud explained that the narrator Buhayr’s full name was Buhayr ibn Raysan.
