Sunan Abi Dawud 4671

Hajjaj ibn Abi Ya‘qub and Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Faris narrated to us; they said: Ya‘qub narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman and Abd al-Rahman al-A‘raj, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: A Jewish man said, ‘By the One who chose Moses.’ A Muslim raised his hand and slapped the Jewish man’s face. The Jewish man went to the Messenger of Allah and told him. The Prophet said: ‘Do not rank me above Moses, for people will be struck unconscious, and I will be the first to recover. Then Moses will be holding fast at the side of the Throne. I do not know whether he will be among those who were struck unconscious and recovered before me, or among those whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, exempted.’ Abu Dawud said: Ibn Yahya’s version is more complete.
