Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، قَالَ وَقَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ { قُلْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا أَسْلَمْنَا } قَالَ نَرَى أَنَّ الإِسْلاَمَ الْكَلِمَةُ وَالإِيمَانَ الْعَمَلُ .
Translation
Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us; Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ma‘mar, who said: al-Zuhri said concerning the verse, ‘Say: “You have not believed; rather, say, ‘We have submitted.’”’ He said: ‘We understand Islam to be the declaration, and faith to be the deed.’
