Sunan Abi Dawud 4685

Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us; Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us. [A second route:] Ibrahim ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us—they gave the same meaning—and both said: Ma‘mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Amir ibn Sa‘d, from his father, that the Prophet distributed among the people. I said, ‘Give so-and-so something, for he is a believer.’ He said, ‘Or a Muslim? I give a man a gift while someone else is dearer to me than he is, for fear that he be thrown face-first into the Fire.’
