Sunan Abi Dawud 4702

Ahmad ibn Salih said: Ibn Wahb narrated to us: Hisham ibn Sa‘d informed me, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Moses said, “My Lord, show us Adam, who brought us and himself out of Paradise.” Allah showed him Adam. Moses said, “Are you Adam, our father?” Adam replied, “Yes.” He said, “You are the one into whom Allah breathed of His spirit, to whom He taught all the names, and for whom He commanded the angels to prostrate, and they prostrated to you?” He replied, “Yes.” Moses said, “Then what made you bring us and yourself out of Paradise?” Adam asked him, “And who are you?” He said, “I am Moses.” Adam said, “You are the Prophet of the Children of Israel, to whom Allah spoke from behind a veil, placing no messenger of His creation between you and Him?” He replied, “Yes.” Adam said, “Did you not find that this was in Allah’s Book before I was created?” Moses replied, “Yes.” Adam said, “Then why do you blame me for something concerning which Allah Most High had decreed before I came to be?”’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said, ‘Adam prevailed over Moses in argument; Adam prevailed over Moses in argument.’
