Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، - يَعْنِي الشَّعْبِيَّ - عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ شَهْرٍ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّجَاشِيِّ فَقَرَأَ ابْنٌ لَهُ آيَةً مِنَ الإِنْجِيلِ فَضَحِكْتُ فَقَالَ : أَتَضْحَكُ مِنْ كَلاَمِ اللَّهِ
Translation
Isma‘il ibn ‘Umar informed us: Ibrahim ibn Musa informed us: Ibn Abi Za’idah informed us, from Mujalid, from ‘Amir—meaning al-Sha‘bi—from ‘Amir ibn Shahr, who said: I was with the Negus when one of his sons recited a verse from the Gospel, and I laughed. He said, ‘Are you laughing at the words of Allah, the Exalted?’
