When one of you prays towards something other than a sutrah, his prayer is invalidated by a dog, a donkey, a pig, a Jew, a Magian, and a woman. It is sufficient for him if they pass in front of him at the distance of a stone's throw.
Abu Dawud said: There is something in my soul regarding this hadith. I used to discuss it with Ibrahim and others, and I did not see anyone who came with it from Hisham, nor did they recognize it, and I did not see anyone narrating it from Hisham. I think the illusion is from Ibn Abi Saminah — meaning Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Basri, the freed slave of Banu Hashim. The objectionable parts in it are the mention of the Magian, the mention of 'at the distance of a stone's throw', and the mention of the pig, and in it there is rejection.
Abu Dawud said: I did not hear this hadith except from Muhammad ibn Ismail, and I think he made a mistake because he used to narrate to us from his memory.
