(Prostrating For) Forgetfulness After The Two Prostrations (Rak'ah) — Sunan Abi Dawud 1015

When the Prophet (ﷺ) turned away after two rak'ahs of an obligatory prayer, a man said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, has the prayer been shortened, or have you forgotten?" He replied, "I did not do any of that." The people said, "You have indeed done that, O Messenger of Allah." So he prayed two more rak'ahs, then turned away and did not perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness.

Abu Dawud said: Dawud bin al-Husayn narrated it from Abu Sufyan, the freed slave of Ibn Abi Ahmad, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet (ﷺ) with this story. He said: Then he performed two prostrations while sitting after the taslim.
