حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ حَيَّانَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَتَرَمَّى، بِأَسْهُمٍ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذْ كُسِفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَنَبَذْتُهُنَّ وَقُلْتُ لأَنْظُرَنَّ مَا أُحْدِثَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ الْيَوْمَ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ رَافِعٌ يَدَيْهِ يُسَبِّحُ وَيُحَمِّدُ وَيُهَلِّلُ وَيَدْعُو حَتَّى حُسِرَ عَنِ الشَّمْسِ فَقَرَأَ بِسُورَتَيْنِ وَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ‏.‏

Narrated 'Abd al-Rahman b. Samurah

While I was shooting arrows during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the sun suffered an eclipse. So I cast them away and said, 'I shall surely look into what has been brought forth for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the solar eclipse today.' I reached him while he was raising his hands, declaring Allah's glory, praising Him, declaring His oneness, and supplicating until the eclipse cleared from the sun. Then he recited two surahs and performed two rak'ahs.
