Sunan Abi Dawud 1177
There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) stood in a prolonged state, leading the people in prayer. Then he bowed, then stood, then bowed, then stood, then bowed, and he bowed two rak'ahs, with three bowings in every rak'ah, and he bowed the third time. Then he prostrated until men were on the verge of fainting that day due to the length of time he stood with them, until water buckets were poured over them. When he bowed, he said, "Allahu Akbar," and when he raised his head, he said, "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," until the sun cleared. Then he said, "Verily, the sun and the moon do not suffer eclipse for the death or life of anyone, but they are two signs among the signs of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, by which He frightens His servants. So when they eclipse, hasten to prayer."
