Regarding Seeking The Position Of Judge and Hastening To Accept That Position

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ رَجَاءٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بِشْرٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ الأَزْرَقِ، قَالَ دَخَلَ رَجُلاَنِ مِنْ أَبْوَابِ كِنْدَةَ وَأَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ جَالِسٌ فِي حَلْقَةٍ فَقَالاَ أَلاَ رَجُلٌ يُنَفِّذُ بَيْنَنَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْحَلْقَةِ أَنَا . فَأَخَذَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ كَفًّا مِنْ حَصًى فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ وَقَالَمَهْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ يُكْرَهُ التَّسَرُّعُ إِلَى الْحُكْمِ .
Translation
AbdurRahman ibn Bishr al-Ansari al-Azraq said
Two men from the direction of Kindah came while Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari was sitting in a circle, and they said, "Is there any man who will judge between us?" A man from the circle said, "I." Abu Mas'ud took a handful of pebbles, threw them at him, and said, "Hush! It was disapproved to make haste in judging."
