حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ حَرْمَلَةَ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الأَزْدِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ غَرَفَةَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ الْكِنْدِيَّ، قَالَ شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَأُتِيَ بِالْبُدْنِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ ادْعُوا لِي أَبَا حَسَنٍ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَدُعِيَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ - رضى الله عنه - فَقَالَ لَهُ ‏"‏خُذْ بِأَسْفَلِ الْحَرْبَةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِأَعْلاَهَا ثُمَّ طَعَنَ بِهَا فِي الْبُدْنِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَكِبَ بَغْلَتَهُ وَأَرْدَفَ عَلِيًّا رضى الله عنه

Narrated Arfah ibn al-Harith al-Kandi

Muhammad ibn Hatim narrated to us, Abdur Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Harmalah ibn Imran, from Abdullah ibn al-Harith al-Azdi, who said: I heard Gharaf ibn al-Harith al-Kindi, who said: I was present with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) at the Farewell Pilgrimage when the sacrificial camels were brought. He said: "Call Abul-Hasan for me." So Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was called for him, and he said to him: "Take hold of the lower end of the harbah (spear)." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took hold of its upper end, and then he pierced the sacrificial camel with it. When he finished, he mounted his mule and made Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) ride behind him.
