Al-Qa'nabi narrated to us, from Malik, from Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id al-Maqburi, from 'Ubayd ibn Jurayj, that he said to 'Abdullah ibn Umar: "O Abu 'Abdur-Rahman, I saw you doing four things which I have not seen any of your companions doing." He asked: "What are they, Ibn Jurayj?" He replied: "I saw that you do not touch any of the corners [of the Ka'bah] except the two Yamani corners; and I saw you wearing the Sab'iyyah shoes; and I saw you dyeing with yellow; and I saw that when you were in Makkah, the people assumed ihrram when they saw the crescent moon, but you did not assume ihram until the Day of Tarwiyah."
'Abdullah ibn Umar replied: "As for the corners, I have not seen the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, touch except the two Yamani corners. As for the Sab'iyyah shoes, I have seen the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wearing shoes that had no hair and performing ablution in them, so I love to wear them. As for the yellow dye, I have seen the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, dyeing with it, so I love to dye with it. And as for assuming ihram, I have not seen the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, assume ihram until his mount stood up with him."
