حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، - يَعْنِي أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ الرَّازِيَّ - وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ - وَهَذَا لَفْظُهُ - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ، عَنْ وَرْقَاءَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ كَانُوايَحُجُّونَ وَلاَ يَتَزَوَّدُونَ - قَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ أَوْ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يَحُجُّونَ وَلاَ يَتَزَوَّدُونَ - وَيَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ ‏‏{‏ وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَى ‏}‏ الآيَةَ

Ibn `Abbas said

Ahmad ibn al-Furat—meaning Abu Mas'ud al-Razi—and Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Mukharrami—and this is his wording—said: Narrated to us Shababah, from Warqa', from Amr ibn Dinar, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: They used to perform Hajj without taking provisions with them. Abu Mas'ud said: The people of Yemen—or some people from Yemen—used to perform Hajj without taking provisions, and they would say: 'We are the ones who put our trust in Allah.' So Allah, the Glorified, revealed:

And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah

—the verse.
