حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، أَتَمَّ الصَّلاَةَ بِمِنًى مِنْ أَجْلِ الأَعْرَابِ لأَنَّهُمْ كَثُرُوا عَامَئِذٍ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ أَرْبَعًا لِيُعْلِمَهُمْ أَنَّ الصَّلاَةَ أَرْبَعٌ ‏.‏

Narrated Az-Zuhri

Uthman ibn Affan completed the prayer at Mina because of the bedouins, as they had increased in number that year, so he prayed four units with the people to teach them that the prayer is four units.
