Sunan Abi Dawud
Sunan Abi Dawud 4271
Abd al-Rahman ibn Amr narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Mubarak: Sadaqah ibn Khalid—or someone else—narrated to us, saying: Khalid ibn Dihqan said: I asked Yahya ibn Yahya al-Ghassani about the phrase “deliberately killed him.” He said: It refers to those who fight during civil strife, when one of them kills, believing himself to be rightly guided, and does not seek God forgiveness for it. Abu Dawud said: He also said that the phrase means he pours out blood profusely.
