Ahmad ibn al-Hajjaj narrated to us: Hatim ibn Isma‘il narrated to us: Abu al-Asbat al-Harithi narrated to us—his name was Bishr ibn Rafi‘—from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurayra, who said that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: The believer is guileless and noble; the wicked person is deceitful and ignoble.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source explicitly identifies Abu al-Asbat al-Harithi as Bishr ibn Rafi‘. The paired terms غِرّ كريم and خَبّ لئيم are rendered with their contrast between guilelessness/nobility and deceitfulness/ignobility.
