Book 51, Hadith 2
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلاَلٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: أَقِلُّوا الْخُرُوجَ بَعْدَ هُدُوءٍ، فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ دَوَابَّ يَبُثُّهُنَّ، فَمَنْ سَمِعَ نُبَاحَ الْكَلْبِ، أَوْ نُهَاقَ حِمَارٍ، فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ، فَإِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَ مَا لا تَرَوْنَ.

‘Abd Allah ibn Salih related to us: al-Layth related to me: Khalid ibn Yazid related to me, from Sa‘id ibn Abi Hilal, from Sa‘id ibn Ziyad, from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah, from the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: ‘Limit how often you go out after the night has grown still, for Allah has creatures that He sends forth. Whoever hears a dog barking or a donkey braying, let him seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed, for they see what you do not see.’
