Kalda ibn Hanbal reported: Safwan ibn Umayya sent him to the Prophet ﷺ during the Conquest with milk, a young gazelle, and daghabis. Abu Asim said that daghabis means greens. The Prophet ﷺ was at the upper end of the valley. I had neither greeted him nor asked permission, so he said, “Go back and say, ‘Peace be upon you. May I enter?’” This was after Safwan had become Muslim.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The food items جِدَايَةٍ and ضَغَابِيسَ are uncommon; the latter is glossed in the Arabic itself as greens/vegetables.

The Arabic names a young gazelle and daghabis (glossed as greens); cucumber is not stated.

Should the food list be corrected to “a young gazelle and greens”?
