Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 194

Musaddad narrated to us. He said: Yahya narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, who said: Ma‘rur said: We passed by Abu Dharr. He was wearing a garment, and his young servant was wearing a complete outfit. We said, ‘If you took this and gave him something else in its place, the two pieces would make a complete outfit.’ He said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Your brothers are those whom Allah has placed under your authority. If someone has his brother under his authority, let him feed him from what he eats and clothe him from what he wears. He must not burden him with what overwhelms him; and if he does burden him with what overwhelms him, let him help him with it.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The demonstratives ‘this’ and ‘something else’ refer to the garments in the preceding sentence; the source leaves the exchange implicit.
The source uses demonstratives for the garments rather than repeating their names, and the exact allocation is not restated.
Should the demonstratives be preserved in a final editorial version?
