Yahya ibn Bukayr related to us: al-Layth related to us, from ‘Uqayl, from Ibn Shihab: Humayd ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman informed me that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘If one of you swears an oath and says in it, “By al-Lat and al-‘Uzza,” let him say, “There is no god but Allah.” And whoever says to his companion, “Come, let me gamble with you,” let him give charity.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The remedy for invoking the pre-Islamic idols and the instruction to give charity after proposing a wager are both stated in the Arabic.
