Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 153

Muhammad ibn Salam narrated to us. He said: Abu Muawiya informed us. He said: al-Amash narrated to us, from Ibrahim al-Taymi, from al-Harith ibn Suwayd, from Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Which of you loves his heir's wealth more than his own?' They said, 'Messenger of Allah, there is none among us who does not love his own wealth more than his heir's.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Know that none of you fails to love his heir's wealth more than his own. Your wealth is what you send ahead, and your heir's wealth is what you leave behind.'

The closing contrast uses temporal metaphor for wealth spent/given ahead and wealth left after death.
Would an editorial note help clarify the metaphor without reducing its force?
