حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: كُنْتُ أَلْعَبُ بِالْبَنَاتِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَكَانَ لِي صَوَاحِبُ يَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي، فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا دَخَلَ يَنْقَمِعْنَ مِنْهُ، فَيُسَرِّبُهُنَّ إِلَيَّ، فَيَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي.

‘A’isha said: I used to play with dolls in the presence of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and my friends would play with me. When the Messenger of Allah entered, they would hide from him, and he would quietly send them back to me so they could play with me.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The verb يُسَرِّبُهُنَّ suggests he would quietly or discreetly let the girls return to her; the English witness says he called them to join her.
فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا دَخَلَ يَنْقَمِعْنَ مِنْهُ، فَيُسَرِّبُهُنَّ إِلَيَّ، فَيَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي.
The Arabic verb suggests discreetly sending or letting them back, rather than explicitly calling them.
Should the verb be translated as quietly sending the girls back, as in this version, or as calling them to join her?
