Farwa ibn Abi al-Maghra narrated to us, saying: al-Qasim ibn Malik narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Awn, from ‘Umayr ibn Ishaq, who said: ‘We used to say that the first thing to be taken away from people would be affection.’

  • إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا يُرْفَعُ مِنَ النَّاسِ الأُلْفَةُ‏.

الأُلْفَةُ refers to affection, harmony, or closeness among people; يُرْفَعُ is literally ‘is lifted/removed.’

Review whether ‘affection’ or ‘harmony among people’ best captures الألفة.
