Book 14, Hadith 281

Musaddad narrated to us: Abu ‘Awana narrated to us, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from Safwan ibn Abi Yazid, from al-Qa‘qa‘ ibn al-Lajlaj, from Abu Hurayra, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The dust raised in Allah’s cause and the smoke of Hell will never be joined in a servant’s interior; and miserliness and faith will never be joined in a servant’s heart.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source uses جوف (interior) for the first pair and قلب (heart) for the second. The English witness renders both locations as the heart.
The Arabic says جوف, the interior of a person, rather than repeating قلب, which occurs in the second clause.
Should the first phrase remain ‘in a servant’s interior’ or be smoothed to ‘in the heart’ as in the witness?
