Book 14, Hadith 304
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: كُلُّ مَعْرُوفٍ صَدَقَةٌ، إِنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ أَنْ تَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِوَجْهٍ طَلْقٍ، وَأَنْ تُفْرِغَ مِنْ دَلْوِكَ فِي إِنَاءِ أَخِيكَ.

Qutayba narrated to us: Ibn al-Munkadir narrated to us, from his father, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Every good deed is charity. Part of goodness is that you meet your brother with a cheerful face and pour some of what is in your bucket into your brother’s vessel.’

The Arabic uses معروف, a recognized good or kindness, and specifically says to pour from one’s bucket into one’s brother’s container.
