‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abd Allah related to us: Sulayman ibn Bilal related to us, from al-‘Ala’, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade people from gathering in public thoroughfares. They said, ‘Messenger of Allah, it would be difficult for us to sit in our homes.’ He said, ‘If you do sit there, then give gatherings their due.’ They asked, ‘What is their due, Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘Showing the way to one who asks, returning the greeting, lowering the gaze, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong.’

The expression is uncommon and appears in the witness as giving directions; its precise scope may need lexical review.

Does إدلال السائل specifically mean directing a person who asks for directions in this context?
