Musa related to us, saying: Wuhayb related to us, saying: Ayyub related to us, from Abu al-‘Aliya, who said: I asked ‘Abdullah ibn al-Samit, who said: I asked my close friend, Abu Dharr. He said: I brought the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, water for ablution. He shook his head and bit his lips. I said: “May my father and mother be your ransom, have I upset you?” He said: “No, but you will encounter rulers—or imams—who delay the prayer beyond its proper time.” I said: “What do you command me to do?” He said: “Pray each prayer at its proper time. If you catch them praying, pray with them, and do not say: ‘I have already prayed, so I will not pray.’”
