حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي رَزِينٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُهُ يَضْرِبُ جَبْهَتَهُ بِيَدِهِ وَيَقُولُ: يَا أَهْلَ الْعِرَاقِ، أَتَزْعُمُونَ أَنِّي أَكْذِبُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، أَيَكُونُ لَكُمُ الْمَهْنَأُ وَعَلَيَّ الْمَأْثَمُ؟ أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: إِذَا انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ نَعْلِ أَحَدِكُمْ، فَلاَ يَمْشِي فِي نَعْلِهِ الأُخْرَى حَتَّى يُصْلِحَهُ.

Muhammad ibn Sallam related to us, saying: Abu Mu‘awiya informed us, from al-A‘mash, from Abu Razin, from Abu Hurayra, who said: I saw him striking his forehead with his hand and saying: “People of Iraq, do you claim that I lie about the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? Would you enjoy the benefit while the sin fell upon me? I testify that I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: ‘When the sandal strap of one of you breaks, let him not walk in his other sandal until he repairs it.’”
