Abu Ma‘mar related to us, saying: ‘Abd al-Warith related to us, saying: Ayyub ibn Abi Tamima related to us, from Abu al-‘Aliya al-Bara’, who said: ‘Abdullah ibn al-Samit passed by me, so I set out a chair for him and he sat. I said to him: “Ibn Ziyad has delayed the prayer; what do you advise?” He struck my thigh once—I think the narrator said so hard that it left a mark—then said: “I asked Abu Dharr just as you asked me, and he struck my thigh as I struck yours. He said: ‘Pray each prayer at its proper time. If you catch them praying, pray with them, and do not say: I have already prayed, so I will not pray.’”
