He said: A boy was born to a certain man among the Ansar, and he named him Muhammad. The Ansar said: “We will not give you the kunya of the Messenger of Allah.” Then we sat in the road, asking him about the Hour. He said: “Have you come to ask me about the Hour?” We said: “Yes.” He said: “No living soul will have a hundred years pass over it.” We said: “A boy was born to a certain man among the Ansar, and he named him Muhammad. The Ansar said: ‘We will not give you the kunya of the Messenger of Allah.’” He said: “The Ansar did well. Name yourselves with my name, but do not take my kunya.”

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The statement about a hundred years is rendered as no living person lasting another hundred years; it does not say that the Hour itself will occur within a century.

The Arabic says a boy was born to a man among the Ansar; it does not identify him as an enslaved person.

Should this be rendered as “a man among the Ansar” rather than “a slave”?
