حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ: مَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ يَبْدَأُ، أَوْ يَبْدُرُ، ابْنَ عُمَرَ بِالسَّلامِ.

Bashir ibn Yasar said: No one would get ahead of Ibn Umar in offering the greeting of peace.

The Arabic has two variant verbs, يَبْدَأُ or يَبْدُرُ; both convey being first or getting ahead in offering the greeting.
