‘Abd Allah ibn Salih narrated to us, saying: Musa ibn ‘Ali narrated to me, from his father, that the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Suraqah ibn Ju‘shum: “Shall I point you to the greatest charity—or one of the greatest forms of charity?” He said, “Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah.” He said, “Your daughter, returned to you, has no provider other than you.”

  • ابْنَتُكَ مَرْدُودَةٌ إِلَيْكَ

The participle مَرْدُودَةٌ suggests that the daughter has been returned to the father, but does not state the circumstances.

Should the English leave the reason for her return entirely unstated, as in the Arabic?
