Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Ishaq narrated to us. He said: 'Ali ibn Husayn informed us. He said: My father narrated to me, from Yazid al-Nahwi, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, concerning the words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “If one of them, or both of them, should reach old age with you, do not say to them, ‘Ugh’”—up to His words—“as they raised me when I was small.” Then the verse in Bara'ah abrogated it: “It is not for the Prophet and those who believe to ask forgiveness for the idolaters, even if they are close relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are the companions of the Blaze.”

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ،

The Arabic contains a chain from Ishaq through 'Ikrimah; the English witness does not.

Should the English witness be marked as abridged for this occurrence?

  • فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ‏:‏ ‏{‏إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِنْدَكَ الْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَا أَوْ كِلاَهُمَا فَلاَ تَقُلْ لَهُمَا أُفٍّ‏}‏ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ‏:‏ ‏{‏كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا‏}‏،

The source quotes only selected phrases and says ‘up to His words’; the additional wording and citation are witness material.

Should the witness's extra Qur'anic wording and reference be recorded as additions outside the Arabic scope?

The Arabic names the verse in Bara'ah but gives no verse number.

Should the reference number be retained only as witness metadata rather than part of the translation?
