حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الزِّبْرِقَانِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي مَدَحْتُ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِمَحَامِدَ، قَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُحِبُّ الْحَمْدَ، وَلَمْ يَزِدْهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad related to us, saying: Abu Hammam Muhammad ibn al-Zibriqan related to us, saying: Yunus ibn ‘Ubayd related to us, from al-Hasan, from al-Aswad ibn Sari‘, who said: I said: “Messenger of Allah, I have praised my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, with words of praise.” He said: “Indeed, your Lord loves praise,” and said no more to him.
