حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُبَارَكٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ شَاعِرًا، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ: أَلاَ أُنْشِدُكَ مَحَامِدَ حَمِدْتُ بِهَا رَبِّي؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُحِبُّ الْمَحَامِدَ، وَلَمْ يَزِدْنِي عَلَيْهِ.

Sa‘id ibn Sulayman related to us, saying: Mubarak related to us, from al-Hasan, from al-Aswad ibn Sari‘, who said: I was a poet, and I went to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: “Shall I recite to you praises with which I have praised my Lord?” He said: “Your Lord loves praise,” and said no more to me.
