حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَنْعُمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: الشِّعْرُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْكَلاَمِ، حَسَنُهُ كَحَسَنِ الْكَلامِ، وَقَبِيحُهُ كَقَبِيحِ الْكَلامِ.

Muhammad ibn Sallam related to us, saying: Isma‘il ibn ‘Ayyash related to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An‘um, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Rafi‘, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Poetry is like speech: its good is like good speech, and its bad is like bad speech.”
