Musa ibn Isma‘il related to us: Sukayn ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Qays related to me, from his father, who said: I visited ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar while a young woman was removing hair from him. He said: ‘Nura depilatory thins the skin.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
النورة is a depilatory preparation traditionally made with lime/arsenic compounds; the report simply says it thins the skin and does not specify the hair removed.
The report names the depilatory preparation النورة and does not state which body hair was being removed.
Should النورة be transliterated with a short explanatory gloss as here?
