Book 55, Hadith 4
وَعَنْ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَخَالِي عَلَى عَائِشَةَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا يَعْرُضُ فِي صَدْرِهِ مَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ ذَهَبَتْ آخِرَتُهُ، وَلَوْ ظَهَرَ لَقُتِلَ بِهِ، قَالَ: فَكَبَّرَتْ ثَلاَثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيُكَبِّرْ ثَلاَثًا، فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يُحِسَّ ذَلِكَ إِلا مُؤْمِنٌ.

And from Jarir, from Layth, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: My maternal uncle and I entered upon ‘A’ishah. He said: ‘Something comes into one of our hearts which, if we were to speak it, would destroy our Hereafter, and if it were exposed, we would be killed for it.’ She said: ‘Allah is greatest!’ three times. Then she said: ‘The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, was asked about that, and he said: “When that occurs to one of you, let him proclaim Allah’s greatness three times, for only a believer feels it.”’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic says خالي, my maternal uncle, while the English witness says maternal aunt. The opening “And from” is retained as the source begins with a continuation particle.

The Arabic خالي denotes a maternal uncle; the witness says maternal aunt.
