Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 788

Salman ibn Sumayr al-Alhani reported that Fadala ibn ‘Ubayd was at a gathering when news reached him that some people were playing kubah. He rose angrily and forbade it most emphatically. Then he said: “The one who plays it will consume its fruit just as one consumes pork and performs ablution with blood.” The report explains: “By kubah, [it means] nard.”
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
Kubah is glossed in the Arabic as nard, a dice game.
The Arabic says that the player will consume its fruit/outcome; it does not specify playing in order to live on winnings.
Please check the added motive against the Arabic.
