Musa related to us: Abu ‘Awanah related to us: ‘Umar related to us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: When morning came, the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, would say: “We have entered the morning, and all praise has entered the morning belonging to Allah alone, with no partner. There is no god but Allah, and to Him is the Resurrection.” When evening came, he would say: “We have entered the evening, and sovereignty has entered the evening belonging to Allah. All praise belongs to Allah alone, with no partner. There is no god but Allah, and to Him is the return.”

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The morning and evening forms differ in the Arabic: the morning concludes with “to Him is the Resurrection,” while the evening concludes with “to Him is the return.”
