Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مَطَرٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّعْدَ وَالصَّوَاعِقَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَقْتُلْنَا بِصَعْقِكَ، وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ، وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ.
Translation
Salim ibn ‘Abdullah reported from his father: When the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, heard thunder and lightning, he would say: “O Allah, do not kill us with Your thunderbolt, do not destroy us with Your punishment, and grant us well-being before that.”
