Muhammad ibn ‘Ubayd Allah narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Hazim narrated to us, from al-‘Ala’, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: A man came to the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, “Messenger of Allah, I have relatives with whom I maintain ties, while they cut me off; I treat them well, while they treat me badly; they act ignorantly toward me, while I bear patiently with them.” He said, “If it is as you say, it is as though you are feeding them hot ashes. Allah will continue to support you against them as long as you remain as you are.”
