Adam ibn Abi Iyas narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Dhi’b narrated to us, saying: Sa‘id ibn Sam‘an narrated to us, saying: I heard Abu Hurayrah seek refuge from the rule of young people and fools. Sa‘id ibn Sam‘an said: Ibn Hasanah al-Juhani informed me that he said to Abu Hurayrah, “What is the sign of that?” He said, “That kinship ties are severed, the one who leads astray is obeyed, and the one who guides rightly is disobeyed.”

  • إِمَارَةِ الصِّبْيَانِ وَالسُّفَهَاءِ

إِمَارَة can refer to authority or governance, and الصبيان may mean boys or immature young people; the witness renders this ‘the power of children and fools.’

Would ‘authority of the young and foolish’ better preserve the phrase without over-specifying age or office?
