Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 881

Musa related to us, saying: Hammad ibn Salama related to us, from Kathir Abu Muhammad, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Ajlan, who said: ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, passed by two men who were shooting. One of them said to the other: “Did you hit it?”—using the letter sin instead of sad. ‘Umar said: “Bad grammar is worse than a bad shot.”
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The reported mistake is pronouncing sin where sad is required in أصبتَ (asabta, “you hit”).
