حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمٍ، يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَؤُهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْرَأَنِيهَا فَأَخَذْتُ بِثَوْبِهِ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَأْتَنِيهَا فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأَ الْقِرَاءَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْهُ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأْتُ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ مَرَرْتُ بِهِشَامِ بْنِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
‘Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Malik, from al-Zuhri, from ‘Urwah, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Abd, from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: I heard Hisham ibn Hakim reciting Surat al-Furqan in prayer in a way different from how I recited it, though the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had taught it to me. I seized his garment and took him to the Messenger of Allah. I said, ‘I heard this man reciting Surat al-Furqan differently from how you taught it to me.’ He said, ‘Recite.’ He recited the recitation I had heard from him. The Prophet said, ‘Thus it was revealed.’ Then he said to me, ‘Recite.’ I recited, and he said, ‘Thus it was revealed. This Qur’an was revealed in seven modes (ahruf), so recite whatever is easy.’ ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us; Ma‘mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from ‘Urwah, from al-Miswar ibn Makhramah and ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Abd al-Qari, who both heard ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, say: I passed by Hisham ibn Hakim ibn Hizam reciting Surat al-Furqan, and he mentioned a report with the same meaning.
