Translation

Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us; Hisham ibn ‘Urwah narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn ‘Umar: ‘Umar was asked, ‘Will you not appoint a successor?’ He said, ‘If I leave it, then one better than me—the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him—left it. And if I appoint a successor, then one better than me—Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him—appointed a successor.’
