Yazid narrated to us; Jarir informed us; al-Zubayr ibn al-Khirrit related to us, from Abu Labid, who said: A man named Bayrah ibn Asad left Tahiyah as a migrant and arrived in Medina a few days after the death of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, saw him and realized that he was a stranger. He asked him, ‘Who are you?’ He replied, ‘I am from the people of Oman.’ ‘Umar said, ‘Indeed?’ He took him by the hand and brought him to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and said, ‘This man is from the land about which I heard the Messenger of Allah say: “I know a land called Oman, along whose shore the sea washes. There is a tribe of Arabs there; if my envoy were to come to them, they would not shoot an arrow at him or throw a stone.”’
